The award-winning stage adaptation premiered in London’s West End in 2013 and enjoyed a successful Broadway run. As the production headed for Shanghai and a tour across China, the stage design called for a bigger visual experience using leading-edge video effects. Production manager Guy Ongley partnered with Holotronica to take the video projection design to the next level using Hologauze® tech and our expertise.

We worked closely with Guy and his team to supply precisely shaped Hologauze® panels tailored to the set design. The set featured a 7m by 6m arched structure with three bespoke Hologauze® panels attached with Velcro. Additionally, a 11 by 6.5 meters Hologauze XL spanned the stage for multiple scenes.

As with any large production on tour, projection designer Jeff Suggs had to expertly integrate the projection effects and overcome the challenges of different theatre dimensions, minimal depth for light spill and dynamic stage. He expertly utilised the transparency of Hologauze® to create immersive, layered visuals that enhanced the storytelling. Precisely mapping the Hologauze® panels allowed effects to integrate seamlessly with the live action without obstructing the performers. Through this partnership, we helped elevate the production’s visual impact to a truly next-generation level.
