What an incredible honour it was to work once again with the BBC’s Inside No. 9 creators, Duncan McLean and the wonderful production team at Phil McIntyre Events, to provide another Hologauze for their latest — and final — production. The West End smash Stage Fright opened at Wyndham’s Theatre last Christmas and ran until April this year.
The super-talented video projection designer for the show, Duncan McLean, used the Hologauze to deliver a very funny and highly innovative narrative in the opening scene. Text messages that Steve Pemberton was reading on his phone appeared to hang magically in the air on the completely transparent Hologauze, much to the amazement and laughter of the audience.
Duncan used a Panasonic RZ12K with an LE150 lens. The projector was rigged in portrait mode at an extreme angle in the auditorium, house right, on a vertical bar hidden behind one of the dress circle boxes. This setup allowed the light spill to be directed into the wings, out of view of the audience.
The hugely successful, sold-out West End run was followed by a UK tour, which began last month and continues until December 2025. We provided another, larger Hologauze for the touring version of the production.
The growing popularity of video design in stage productions is great news for Hologauze, as it offers not only 3D holographic potential but also a versatile, transparent projection system for a wide range of video artistry and effects.
It often takes us a while to post production images to avoid spoilers, but finally… we have a special picture of the Hologauze in action.
