Brunel’s SS Great Britian was the largest passenger ship in the world from 1845 to 1853 and is now a landmark museum in Bristol, UK. The Holotronica team were invited to collaborate with their project team to create some ghostly apparitions for their half term Halloween event.
The forward hold of the ship was assessed and measured before being built in CAD software to model where the projections and resulting spill light would work best to achieve maximum impact. An important part of the brief from the SS Great Britian Team was to create an installation that could easily be switched on and off daily for a week without the need for managing projectors, media servers, audio and lighting.
Two Hologauze installations were designed and built in the forward hold, making use of an open doorway and a dead end walkway. The characters were filmed on green screen at our demo studio and composited ready for projection on Hologauze by our team.
The illusions were in place for a week and worked flawlessly without the need for any maintenance or adjustments.
Hologauze is a perfect solution for creating ghostly apparitions as we were able to use lower power projectors, allowing some transparency.
Huge thanks to the team at SS Great Britian. Iona, Nat, Simon, Kate and Craig were all lovely to work with and it was so rewarding to work on such a iconic venue in Bristol.
