Back in 2023, David Vardy from Holovis first reached out to Holotronica to explore the use of Hologauze® technology for a new ride at Universal. Fast forward to May 22, 2025, and Monsters Unchained officially opened as a headlining attraction at Epic Universe. Widely praised as one of Universal’s best rides, we couldn’t be prouder that it features three Hologauze® installations, integrated seamlessly among some of the most advanced animatronics and special effects ever seen in a theme park.
Hologauze® projections create a mesmerizing vortex-like holographic backdrop behind Dracula, as well as an illusion of swarming bats. Hologauze® begins the experience as it brilliantly simulates crackling electrical currents and dynamic energy flows within Dr. Victoria Frankenstein’s laboratory.
This ambitious project perfectly combines the best in ride technology—cutting-edge animatronics, immersive audiovisual storytelling, holographic effects, physical sets, and motion-based ride excitement—all working together to deliver an unforgettable experience.
